Endless Propaganda
The War on Terror is a Hoax
If America were infected with terrorists, we would not need the government to tell us. We would know it from events. As there are no events, the US government substitutes warnings in order to keep alive the fear that causes the public to accept pointless wars, the infringement of civil liberty, national ID cards, and inconveniences and harassments when they fly.
The most obvious indication that there are no terrorist cells is that not a single neocon has been assassinated.

None of that means much really. Canada's national security and it's assets are at risk and have been since Chretien. Change the language from terrorist to just enemy of the state and one gets a much different picture.

A little further research will aptly demonstrate the endless propaganda we've been fed about the real state of our borders as well.
I had some people over for dinner the other night, and one of my guests expressed her shock and dismay over what was happening in Pakistan with all those radicalized Islamists (or whatever the latest terror catch phrase is). Of course others piped in about all those Islamic terrorists everywhere. I said, "I blame the CIA." They thought it was one of my "lefty conspiracy" jokes.
ReplyDeleteI told them that I was serious. They used and armed the mujajadeen to fight the Russians in Afghanistan and this amorphous group grew stronger by attracting frustrated Muslim men from various nations who were willing to travel to fight the evil invaders, be they Russians, Indians or USians.
Our government and press have always made these loosely connected rag tag teams with nothing to lose sound like some far reaching evil organization, with some top leader and his lieutenants coordinating events from a top notch "secret lair" facility, complete with studio, satellite and IT department :-)
I mentioned being in that hot bed of radicalization known as Kashmir in 1990 when there was fighting going on and the region was under strict curfew (we snuck in since foreigners weren't allowed to visit at the time). I didn't see one single burka clad woman and I wasn't shunned as some brazen western foreigner. The guys who ran our guest house smoked dope and listened to Bob Marley. They would tell us why they loved "Buffalo Soldier" so much. It gave them hope.
So how is it that so much changed so dramatically over a decade. What were considered trouble spots with resistance movements became strongholds of fundamentalist Muslim extremists. Even the Palestinian resistance under the secularist PLO was supplanted by Islamic Jihadist extremists in the telling of the new and improved tale of mid-east conflict. In fact, many conflicts in the global south have been cast in terms of Islamic extremism.
Qui bono in changing the script? Certainly not the native inhabitants stuck in the cross-hairs of foreign guns.
Beijing York,
ReplyDeleteA fantastic point!

ReplyDeleteTPM: sorry for missing out posting at The Peace Tree last Wednesday - I've been caught in yet another busy time with science (which I often like to call .the ever-demanding mistress" ...).
I'll try my best to post something this coming Wednesday ...
(keeping fingers crossed)
