I figger torture's been goin' on for millennia since pre-history. It was only a short 60 years ago that a good portion of the world officially renounced torture when they drafted and signed the UDHR. I reckon our own jails and residential schools done their share of torturin', too. We never did get a good answer about what's happenin' to them suspected Talibans we hand over to known torturers. And what about Jane Siberry concerts? You wanna experience torture, sit through that off key screechin' fer a coupla hours.

JB: of course torture dates back most likely to the dawn of humanity - I agree.
ReplyDeleteBut it says a lot about our so-called current "civilization" that not only we torture "teh enemy" but also "teh criminals".
No civilization here, folks.
And anything we may like to think about supporting the idea of the nobility and grandeur of our civilization constitutes nothing short of a Grand Delusion - bordering on the pathological.
