The Myth Of Them Fiscally Responsible Conservatives
And what about our own Harper and his Harpies? The Swamp reports today that “on the last day of September, the national debt hit $10 trillion plus,” as the “gross national debt as a percentage of the gross domestic product has, under the Bush Administration, hit a 50-year high. The debt grew the fastest under supply-siders Ronald Reagan, George H.W. Bush, and George W. Bush:
The debt was $5.7 trillion when Bush took office; the bailout legislation passed by the Senate last night would raise the debt ceiling further to $11.315 trillion. The Wonk Room has more.
Aside from a budget deficit for this year and after squandering previous surplusses, we are being reminded of these little gems of "fiscal responsibility" and "spending restraint":
(...) spending is up by almost 10% — a highly disturbing number that never seems to get addressed. Over the past several months the Harper government doled out almost $20 billion in bogus, pork-laden pre-campaign promises — something else that also never seems to be tackled. In addition to that, the Stephen Harper government also wrote off an accumulation of “notional” EI assets valued at $51 billion while you were snoozing…But hey - "conservatives are more fiscally responsible and are not big waste-spenders of our taxes" ...
Ah, those comforting childhood fairy tales ...

Isn't that graph amazing? Obama should put it front and centre on his website. ;)
ReplyDeleteHi Mentarch! While this chart is interesting, the truth is far more complex - as you obviously already know.
ReplyDeleteBeing completely free from all partisan views - or so I think I am haha - allows me to criticize both sides.
I've come to the conclusion that because of humankind's inability to not be greedy, corrupt and dishonorable - all political ideology is incorrect.
I've thought many times that we have the ability to have a world with no war, no hunger and true integrity - and that belief is supposed to be the intellectual apex of liberalism. Unfortunately, in that world (as in a conservative world) it requires a governing body - which will, as a result of philosophically inept thinkers - become corrupted and militaristic and communistic. I wish the world could work that way, but it cannot, not at this point.
The American republican party has also become an abomination of sickness and repugnance - an insult to any intelligent human being's intellect.
America needs an independent president, completely non-partisan. Being partisan will inevitably spawn bias and clouded vision.
The real problem is the fact that our federal reserve is owned by the international banks - who own the U.S. congress.
The federal reserve is the 5th plank of the Communist Manifesto and is the most corrupted greed machine in the world. It must be completely reformed if not destroyed.
Neither Obama or McCain will ever touch on these issues. My personal political beliefs are:
War should be avoided at all costs, even if it makes a country look weak. Everyone knows America can destroy another country; therefore, we can take a slap in the face because we should not have a "street gangster respect" attitude.
Our government has far too much power and has become a privately owned entity - owned by 12 or so international banks. That must be changed.
Corporations must be allowed to die and should never be owned by the government or bailed out.
The republican idea of letting free markets fix themselves cannot be accomplished without reforming the federal reserve and complete elimination of all federal income tax.
I believe in the free market system, but not without oversight. The U.S. government is such a tangled knot of disgust, both it's size and power should be reduced immediately.
While welfare does help some people, it is mostly a poorly managed system where the wrong people are helped and the right people get none.
If you go to a poor area in my home state (the poorest state in America), poor people drive sports cars, wear designer clothes, smoke cigarettes and drink beer/liquor - and most if not all get welfare and live in state housing for $75.00/month rent. That is so offensive, I cannot believe it when I see it...every day might I add.
Having said all this, I believe America is doomed and will soon fall - just like Rome.
Maybe that's a good thing. Your blog does make me think and I respect your views as always.
Obama will be our next president, and no matter how much hope he started with, he will be sucked into Washington and become a puppet for the government, just like everyone else - unless the election count is illegally skewed like when Bush was elected. Then we'll get a neo-con McCain and a woman who knows nothing of world affairs. Either way, it will not be good....hahahah!!!!
Regardless, have a wonderful day
and keep up the great work:)
RT: agreed ;-)
ReplyDeleteBobby: you bring up damn good -and interesting- points there ... thanks for the additional food for thought ;-)
