Harper's Tap Dance Around Deficits

Why am I not surprised one bit by this?

Harper changes tone on running deficit

Stephen Harper refused Friday to rule out the possibility of a deficit next year despite his promise during the election campaign that he would not allow one if re-elected.

While the Prime Minister said he intends to maintain a balanced budget this year, he did not say the same for 2009-10.

“I don't think we're in a position yet to know all the information in that regard,” Mr. Harper said in Quebec City, where Canada is hosting a summit of French-speaking governments. “It would be premature to speculate on that. I will just say that the Government of Canada will maintain responsible fiscal policies and the Government of Canada will ensure that whatever we do is in the long-run interests of the Canadian economy.”
Remember all that duplicitous and mendacious double-talking (recent examples here, here, here and here) from Harper and his Harpie (neo)cons - what I sometimes call Harperisms?

And once again, we got "deny, deny, deny" ... before hearing "well, now we realize that ..." - and again: that is what incompetents do (one more example here).

Well, you juts got served again - by those oh so fiscally responsible (neo)cons.

Once again: you reap what you sow, my fellow Canadians.

But I'll give you fair warning, folks: I reckon I ain't done telling you this repeatedly over the next two years to come, at least.

  1. Nice how not a single opposition party or media pundit is calling him out on his blatant lies.

Steve "the economist" Harper doesn't know how to conduct, let alone read, economic forecasts and projections beyond the end of the current year? Tsk tsk, if I were his professor back in his U of Calgary days, I would have failed him.

And yes - where are the opposition parties on this? Probably too busy licking their wounds (LPC, GP), still too high on the gains they've made (NDP) and/or simply taking a break before returning to the House of Commons (BQ).

This does not bode well ...
