Behold The Results Of Canada's War
Taliban rule returning to Kandahar provinceNo wonder defections are a major problem in Afghan forces.
They mete out justice in their own courts, ban schools and even organize large religious gatherings, like one that drew thousands of people just outside Kandahar city recently.
As Canadian Forces continue to fight and die throughout Kandahar province, the Taliban have quietly set up parallel governments only kilo-metres away from the provincial capital, local residents say.
Large swaths of the province for which Canada is responsible have fallen under the control of the insurgents, they said, and out of the grasp of a national government villagers consider corrupt and weak.
No wonder that violence in Afghanistan is worse than ever.
Just ask these guys and these ones.
No wonder the Afghan war is not only unwinnable, but has already been lost - whether there is a "surge" or not.
Everything so far has been falling short.
And the Afghanis apparently approve.

Any questions?

Even as we speak a summit is underway involving Afghan and Pakistani government representatives and Taliban officials. I believe it's being held in Islamabad. It's a 3-way deal to search for some political accommodation. That it's being held at all, even with tacit American approval, is astonishing. What's curious are the "dealbreaker" issues. Kabul wants the Taliban to disarm before any deal and the Taliban resolutely demand there will be no deal so long as Western infidels are operating inside Afghanistan. The Taliban clearly hold the whip hand and everyone, especially Karzi, knows it.
