After Debate Night Buffet: Da Call

The Leaders' Debate:

- my answer to the final question, that "regular woman"'s question about being "frustrated" and therefore not voting in the last several elections because "we always get broken promises": you are the problem as to why things don't change and why you remain frustrated. Wake up and do something about it, eh? And thank you, as well as all those others like you, for contributing in the rest of us responsible citizens being given the shaft through your apathy and inaction.

- While tonight's debate was a near-identical replay of last night, I give the win to Layton and Duceppe ex-equo this time around, with Dion at third (his accent is still bad and he still has difficulties in speaking clearly and decisively in English), whereas May definitely performed better and Harper still loses. Furthermore, May was once again outshone on environmental issues by Duceppe, Dion and Layton. This is very very bad for May, the leader of the GP.
- Again, Harper fibbed and strecthed facts/truths while relying on his talking points. Again, I say that is not leadership, let alone Prime Ministerial, material.
- Accordingly, we may see some rises in the polls tomorrow for the NDP, LPC and GP along with some losses for the CPC - but overall, we will remain at the usual stalemate which will lead us to a Harper minority government (again). Unless next Tuesday changes things ...
- All four "opposing" leaders accomplaished (again) the mission of shining a bright light on Harper's "Bush/republicans/neocons" emulating, his lies and bully attitudes, and the danger of such conservative/republican/neocon policies and practices. Whether Canadians finally wake up to that fact remains to be seen. However, the problem remains: none of the opposing leaders and parties managed to convincingly come across as ready to govern the country, and here's why:

- Next time around, the LPC will need a more effective leader and a clearly defined platform/plan right off the bat, along with a clearly planned/prepared campaign;
- Next time around, the NDP needs to make its platform clearer and better defined, along with a clearly planned/prepared campaign.
- *Then* we'll see Harper and his Harpies out of government as it should be. But the LPC and NDP will have to do a much better job - both in the opposition and when the next elections are called ...
- Unfortunately, May overall confirms that the GP does not have much relevance to most issues which preoccupy Canadians, however much she may have opinions and such on these. The GP needs a definitely better, fuller platform if they want to reach to a majority of Canadians.
- Overall, I guess it's "wait until next time" (sigh).

- See ya on Oct. 14.

The U.S. V-P Debate:

- Biden wins on all fronts, whereas Palin played essentially the cutesy and folksy card ad nauseam. What else could she do? It remains to be seen if the American People are as gullible as they were back in 2000 with regards to Bush, on this account.

- See ya on Oct. 7.

Well, I've had my fill of this Debate Buffet Night. Now, forgive me as I rush to get me some needed peptobismol ...

(Addendum: again, I apologize for all the typos in the blogs about tonight's debate buffet ... I am, after all, only human) ;-)

2 POVs/Comments:

  1. I missed both debates since I was being treated to a sushi dinner, which was a real welcomed break from work and the interwebs.

Thanks for encapsulating both Mentarch. It sounds like I got the better deal with last night's debate.

Your conclusions are sound but I am still hoping that Harper is kicked to the opposition curb. The threat of the two headed neo-con/so-con monster could be put to rest for a very long time if he were to lose. Because dear furious leader might be subjected to a leadership review.

Can you imagine a leadership race among that ship of fools. Seriously, Harper is horrible but he is surrounded by cretins for the most part. I just had a wicked thought, let's start a rumour that the knives are out for him if he doesn't win this race. Nothing say "not leadership material" when there is the perception that the party is not fully behind you (re: Dion).
