90 Minutes Into Debate Night Buffet
The Leaders' Debate:
- arts and culture: again, bis repetita on all parts (sigh).
- crime time: sorry folks, but it's again a play-by-play replay of last night. Harper still obfucates, still fearmongers and still fibs - except with more "conviction" this time around. Same arguments all around from the four others about banning semi-automatics and controlling hand guns ... and same about sentencing vs rehabilitation.
- Layton, on cue, reminds everyone of how many times Dion and the LPC "enabled" Harper by not voting against him. On cue. Almost exactly at the same moment as last night - almost to the second (wow).
- Afghanistan time: same arguments as last night (sigh). Again, Duceppe, Layton and May make a strong case against Harper's policies whereas Dion again fibs.
The U.S. V-P Debate:
- Palin actually scored a point on counter-insurgency against Biden. Stop the presses! The republicans are already celebrating and declaring Palin as the victor of this debate - and forget about the previous inanities and incoherences on her part!
- Palin: McCain knows how to win a war. really? Which war did he win? Hmmm ....
- Question: how would your administration differ from your "boss", should you have to replace him? Biden: I would carry out Obama policies; he then offers specifics. Palin: we're a team of mavericks and we don't agree on everything (no specifics here), but she would "continue his good works" on reforming Washington and Wall Street (yawn). More generalities on her parts, more soundbites and folksy tales and lies. (ugh)
- Palin: "there you go again pointing backwards". OMFG! Can't she even be original fer cripes sakes?!?
- Biden demonstrates he knows about what a VP can and can't do - Palin fibs while acting cutesy and folksy (Man, is this act getting old fast, already).
- Palin: U.S.A. is great and blahblahblah ... Meanwhile, Biden stakes his record and that of Obama aginst that of McCain - anytime. (woah! This may resonate for a long time ...)
- Supreme Court nominees and rulings: Biden does a bit of the wonk job (although I personally have no qualms about this). Palin:"when I was a Mayor ..." (yawn)
More to come ...
