40 Minutes Into Debate Night Buffet
The Leaders' Debate:
- on jobs, etc. - still a near play-by-play replay of last night - excaept again that May is now not fizzling out contrary to last night while Dion has now regain a measure of his composure from last night;
- Harper is somewhat a bit more combative - however, he nevertheless remains on his talking points and obfuscations with regards to truth and facts - just blike last night (ugh!);
- Hah! Harper could not bring himself to mention "deregulation" as the problem with regards to what's happening in the U.S., but rather chose the term "misregulation" ... McCain talking point, ya think? Sheeesh!
- environement: again, a replay of last night, except that Harper looks more relaxed (but is still fibbing about it). May is doing better much on this issue than last night - however, she *still* offers less specifics than Layton, Dion and Duceppe, remaining instead mostly on generalities!!!! This is very bad for May ...
The U.S. V-P Debate:
- Biden remains strong on specifics and at debunking the superficial "folksy" clap-trap offered by Palin - this time about healthcare;
- "I call that the bridge to nowhere" Biden said on McCain's proposed tax breaks to Big Oil and Big Corp - drawing much laughter in the audience!
- Biden is so far solid at laying out Obama's plans and policy proposals on economy, tax breaks, healthcare, education, et al.;
- Palin just repeats McCain talking points while trying to be snarky in a "cutesy/folksy" way - which smacks of insincerity and superficiality. Man, is she ever rehearsed ...
- back to the economy and regulations and such ... again, Biden talks "straight" in exposing Obama's plans and vision while at the same time linking McCain to Bush and debunking McCain's (lies) flip-flops;
- Palin is now boasting about he "energy credentials" - and she has difficulty making sense, fer cripes sakes! (Incredible!!!)
- ooooh ... climate change: Palin says she does not attributes it all to being man-made and "I don't want to argue about who/what causes it" - uuugh! She is now trying to pass herself and McCain off as "environment saviors"! Biden: climate change is man-made, it is clearly man-made. Once again: dissembling (Palin) vs acknowledgement, straight talking, of facts (Biden). Palin offers vagues ideas to tackle the problem, Biden offers direct specifics. Again.
- so far, again, Palin is coming off as a light-weight - yes, a cutesy and folksy one, but a light-weight nonetheless; Biden keeps coming across as commanding, leaderly and statesman-like.
More to come ...
