40 Minutes Into "Le Débat des Chefs"

Well, Harper seems to have regained his composure, being able to spill back his usual talking points (including "don't worry, be happy"), but he remains on the defensive - so good on the other four.

I like the way each one from time to time enage a counterpart other than Harper, without nevertheless taking their sights off of him.

Duceppe is of course annoying with his "Québec this and Québec that" - then again, what else can he do? That's why I've never voted, nor will ever vote, for the BQ. But his leadership qualities are shining through here - in contrats to the last two years-or-so.

Dion is really surprising me in a damn good way. I keep thinking "why, I never thought he had it in him". My conclusion here is that A) he preps very well for debates, as opposed to off-the-cuff questions from reporters and such; and B) he is (too much) comfortable in French - which explains a lot. That remains a huge minus when crossing over the language lines into English.

May sounds sometimes like a "trickle-down' economics gal à la American G.O.P. ("cut taxes on business, alleviate the burden of businesses on employee pensions, etc.). Strange - and inconsistent with other statements she made.

Layton remains consistent with himself, in so far that he has reverted into simply "attacking" harper and/or Dion without any concrete proposals of his own - except for generalities. A shame.

The moderator Stéphan Bureau is doing a great job, especially with his questions - however, he annoys me to no end by always (s0 far) giving first answer to Duceppe whenever he asks a questions directed to all five leaders ...

More later on.
