20 Minutes Into Debate Night Buffet

The Leaders' Debate:

- again, as last night, no opening statements; starting off with the economy;
- again, we have "theme" questions from regular folks;
- leaders have chnaged places a little at the round table - this time, Layton is between Dion and Duceppe; May is still next to Harper;
- again, May starts off strong (even better than last night - here's that language thing suspected all along);
- Dion has lost a notch in being convincing - once again, its all about the language thing; however, he is equally combative;
- Harper plays it cool and calm (same old song: "don't worry, be happy") with the economy *again*;
- Layton starts off strong again - like may, even stronger than last night (language, language, language);
- Duceppe remains even compared to last night, despite his French accent (and in contrast to Dion of tonight);
- Overall, we are so far having an almost play-by-play replay of arguments from last night, except for being "updated" in taking into account last night.

The U.S. V-P Debate:

- starting off on the economy, of course;
- Palin looks at Biden, but she looks more into the camera than at her opponent;
- Biden is a statesman, Palin is "folksy" (ugh);
- Biden scores points, Palin repeats silly talking points about the economy, what McCain meant by "fundamentals" ("workers", yeah, right) and McCain being a maverick ... and manages to mangle things up!
- Palin has already plugged "Joe Six-Pack", "hockey Mom" a couple of times and not even 15 minutes have gone! (ugh!)
- I can't believe it: Palin just said "darn right" - is this Saturday Night Live or the V-P debate?!?
- Biden is on specifics, Palin is on empty "folksy" rhetoric. She may deliver he lines with enough confidence, but its all superficial (Bush 2000, anyone?)
- Palin is replaying the lies about Obama's "tax increases" (sigh);
- Biden calls out Palin for not mentioning McCain's "deregulation"
- Uugh! Palinn just made the "I will not answer the way Biden and the moderator want me to, but I'll talk straight to the American People" play. This is ludicrous.
- Sorry, but Palin is rehearsed and superficial, Biden is substantial and sincere.
