A Tale Of Two Speeches

Listening to McCain's speech at the RNC tonight ...

Of course, we get the same old song: "9/11! 9/11! Islamofascists! bin Laden! Enemies! Defense! Security! Military! Order! Be afraid! U.S.A.! U.S.A.! U.S.A.!"

(along with the same old Grand Oil Party talking points/policy proposals concerning taxes, health care, small businesses, etc., which have been repeated ad nauseam by Bush in 2000 and 2004 - McSame indeed ... even if he did make confessions about some of the failures of the Bush administration)

But hey - he was a POW fer cripes sakes! So he must be The One to lead against the hoary hordes of islamofascists and all assorted enemies of the U.S.A. ...

Then something struck me:

John McCain keeps on speaking to Americans like a Big Daddy (or rather, Grand Daddy) speaks to children - complete with the patronizing tone and smile, using fear as the tool to promulgate corporatism and militarism.

Meanwhile, Barack Obama keeps on speaking to Americans like an adult speaks to ... other adults - furthermore, without fearmongering and gratuituous glorification (worship) of militarism.

So in short:
McCain speaks to authoritarianism.

Obama speaks to democracy.
Any questions?
